BEYOND POSSESSION.

Absoluteley stellar fucking old-school thrashcore.
These guys could shred like few in the genre could back in the day, and this record still gets played ALOT around these parts...

TRAP THEM.

If ever there was a band that could harness (and unleash) the critical elements of great bands like Entombed, Negative Approach & Converge - well then - Trap Them would be that band.

(Been obsessed with this for the last few weeks, can't wait to hear the new EP due out today)...

BATHTUB SHITTER.

Don't let the name fool you.
These guys have been laying down some serious grind for quite a few years now. They are a blast live, funny as hell dudes who can really punish with their shit-jam stylings.

WTF!?!

MELVINS.

Wicked awesome recording of the very first lineup; even predates Crover behind the kit.
Awesome stuff right here, pal...

KATHY MCGINTY.

One of the funniest (and saddest - in the case of most of the callers on here) prank call collections ever recorded. Erdman rules.

FANG.

Seriously, folks...
Easily one of the GREATEST American hardcore bands there ever was.

My ex-wife was so enamored with the Landshark LP I had on my mantle that she ended up marrying me.

They disbanded for a few years there, but have been back in action for some time now, but like most OG hardcore bands, I have no interest in listening to, or seeing them live.
This collection definitely stands the the test of time though, that's for sure.

BOTTLES & SKULLS.

Once upon a time a few years back, a couple of drunken weirdos from Florida moved to S.F. and started a raucous punk band. They quickly laid waste to a scene saturated with sissy haircut jerkoffs.
Some nights they sucked onstage, while on other nights they fucking KILLED everything in sight - especially the booze - but alas, shit this caustic is never meant to last.

I miss these guys; at times they conjured up some serious "Poison Idea-esque" moments - Believe me when I tell you that...

LÄRM.

Dutch HC/Grind GODS who could be called the world's first (straight edge) Powerviolence band.
These guys never let me down, and - as an American - the Dutch vocals make absolute sense to me (does that make sense?)
Anyways, it's not like I have to explain who these guys are, especially if you are a regular visitor to L-RV.
Good shit...

PHOBIA.

For over 15 years now Phobia has been destroying eardrums with their brand of grindcore that somehow (after what seems like a million releases) never gets stale or repetitive.
Definitely masters of the genre, I hope they never go away...

MODERN LIFE IS WAR.

I can't stop listening to this ...

Intensely personal, powerful yet melodic, passionate yet not falling into that whole emo-pussy/pop-thing.
Great storytelling/songwriting without falling back on the usual HC formula.

All this from a bunch of dudes in the middle of nowheresville, Iowa.

Really awesome stuff that is available NOW, so I suggest you buy it. NOW!

BL'AST!

Here's a little something I found whilst trolling the 'webernet a while back that I just had to share with you...

Bl'ast! got tagged with the "Black Flag Jr." title early on via Thrasher Magazine, and while at times they certainly did fit that description - is that a BAD thing, really? - they did venture off into their own brand of chaotic power more often than not.
These guys eventually splintered, but here you have the roots of Spaceboy and Gargantula, whom I posted last month. .
Eventually I'll get around to posting some Spaceboy for you, but in the meantime check out this rare recording from some real Nor-Cal HC legends.

*Re-upped as of 01.08.08*

(Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but that "thing" known as "real life" has been getting in the way as of late.
It's all good stuff, but I like to post two bands a day, & that hasn't been happening. I like to keep you guys well-stocked (and to keep L-RV as a daily stop for you).
I'll try my best, and as always, if the recordings are available BUY IT FROM AN INDEPENDENT SOURCE (or the band) as purchasing from Amazon.com ain't about "supporting the scene"!
And if you download, at least just make up a name or something and LEAVE A COMMENT.
I like to know what you guys all think, etc.
Always appreciated... thanks).

HAMMERHEAD.

Probably my favorite AmRep band, these guys put out a few good records that I can still listen any day of the week.
While I am also a big fan of the first album, it was this one that I played day after day after day for a long time; more so than the rest.
After (highly underrated) guitarist Paul Sanders left the band, I gave up on these guys.
Vaz never did shit for me either.
This record is heavy and melodic and brooding and rockin'.

Where the fuck are you, Paul Sanders?

DEBRIS INC.

Some of the "dirtiest players in the game" make up the brutal wall of mud known as Debris Inc. Filthy heavy doom punk that'll make you laugh your ass off at times.
Someday, you'll wish you owned this one "back in the day" so grab it now...

FAXED HEAD.

Easily in my top three as far as S.F. bands go (that fluctuates daily), these Coalinga natives played a rather abrasive blend of (at times) melodic death/noise-metal.
Live is where these guys shined for sure, and it ain't really been the same around the S.F. "scene" as far as live shows go - not in a long time.

These guys raised the fuckin' bar - maybe too high for even themselves to surpass?

CURL UP & DIE.

The final release from these Las Vegas practitioners of precise math/metalcore.
Sad to see the end come for these guys so soon as they were just starting to hit their stride.
Tight musicianship with lots of stop-and-go / noisy / heavy riffage going down.

THOUGHTS OF IONESCO.

Man, the Detroit music "scene" could sure use another band like these guys after the embarassment that cock-smokers like Big Chief, Eminem, I.C.P., Kid Rock & the White Stripes have made of the history of Motor City music, that's for sure.

Underrated and under-appreciated powerful emotive hardcore (without being pussies and minus the haircuts/eyeliner/womens' jeans)...
