FEAR.

It shouldn't take much for you to realize that Fear was arguably one of the greatest punk/hardcore bands that ever took the stage.

As players, they were highly underrated in the chops/skills department - these dudes could play - and their style was unique.
Excellent songwriting, with some serious acid-tongued socio-political / motherfucker lyrics to boot.

Lee Ving needs to write a book, or have someone write this man's life story, as he has (so far) lead a seriously charmed life.

No need for me to keep preaching to the choir, so go for it and grab this great-sounding recording of the boys tearing it up in Hollywood on Halloween Night way back in 1979 - were you even born yet?

(I was twelve, by the way)…

  3. My bad. I didn't have my links from the last incarnation, & guessed at who was on that list this time around. It's harder to remember, as we are on different blogging platforms, etc.

  4. Thanks for posting this! I have always been a huge Fear fan. My old band The Forgotten supported them in Palo Alto in 2000 or so. Lee Ving was a cranky old man who lost some of his tough guy. They still rocked!!

  5. I have a photo (somewhere) of Lee & my son (who was 3 y.o.) eating cereal together at my kitchen table. Wish I could find that damn thing - that was gonna be the main photo for this post.

  9. I was still swimmin' around in my mother's womb during this recording. I did, however catch them at the Trocadero in SF in '95. We followed Lee Ving around, trying to pester him into an interview for crummy zine. Before the band played, there was an announcement over the P.A. that nobody should spit on the band. (Remember how much spit was flying in the 90's? How dumb was that?) So, of course, seconds into the first song, someone hawks a looey right on Ving's chest. They cut the song and threaten to quit. Two more songs and there's still some salival precipitation. Finally, someone gets him in the face and the band storms off stage. I was super bummed, because at the time I thought they were being pussies. Getting spit on was punk, or so I thought as a teenager. Nowadays, I get it. If someone spits on me, there's gonna be blows. They may have played a make-up gig, but I didn't make it.

  10. I was 15. So.... what was Lee Ving doing at your table eating cereal? The first album is awesome. The others have their moments. Have you seen the really b-grade movie with Malcolm McDowell where Lee Ving plays some stupid "rock'n'roll" character but Fear do that fantastic version of Hoochie Coochie Man? of course you have...

  11. found this site looking for mol triffid. ann arbor plus skateboarding made me think of my first skatetour to skate for the blind in 86. I saw a blind guy drive a car(rik danger?), matt galardo won the am contest, learned how to make a gravity bong, dined and dashed red lobster in the middle of a prom night and then crashed a prom party. "life without skateboarding would be a mistake"
