FLESHGRIND.

It seems strange to me to see a lack of love for this recording (according to various reviews on certain renowned metal "archives", etc).

While these deranged death-heads from Chicago may not have been the most unique, they were definitely killing it fourteen years ago when they released this fury of a record. Hints of Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, etc.
Not "groovy" by any means, but there's a feeling of "laid-back brutality" going on here which I really dig. Sounds like they might be holding back on the bludgeoning tempo at times. Interesting…

  1. It's weird, I've always really liked this album too but it seems to get nothing but bad reviews. I think maybe because it dropped at kind of the the dawn of the "hyperblast" and "slam" scenes without being part of either. Just thick clunky mid 90's death, nothing wrong with that.

Pessimist are another somewhat forgotten 90's death metal band I feel like gets a similar almost universal panning from critics without a real good reason so check em if you're unfamiliar... I just rediscovered their shit cos I've been going to the gym a lot and it rules to run to.

For what it's worth I dig your blog a lot and check in every time there's a new post but I suck at being "social" and leaving comments.

    Take care.

  2. I had always avoided this one on account of the horrible cover and even worse band name. Maybe it's time not to judge a book (cd?) by its cover!!
