FIGURE FOUR.

While I could give a shit less about someone's secular beliefs (be they for Jesus OR be they for Satan - you can't believe in one w/o the other), I have always found the first album from this "brutal-to-the-max" thug-core band from Winnipeg, Canada to be a serious ass-kicker.

Having to attend Catholic Schools for 10 years of my life, as well as also having to attend Mexican Baptist masses throughout those same years has probably been the one thing most responsible for turning me into someone who thinks that religion is a fuckin' crutch. Regardless of how I feel about "faith", I am open to everyone's interpretation as to "what it means & where it all comes from". Usually, I like to keep this out of my music - I like to keep the politics out of it as well these days, but as far as Figure Four goes, they played a seriously heavy version of tough-guy hardcore - harder (aka, "better") than Madball or many of those other "Jersey Meatbag" bands.

Take it it for what it is - you either love it or hate it - but there is no denying the power of the music that these Christ-fueled Canadians laid down...

DARKSIDE NYC.

Sometimes you just truly don't give a fuck.

When I get that feelin' - today kind of sucked a giant bag of herpetic dicks - it is not uncommon for me to bust out some burly-ass / tough-guy / circle-pit-inducing / thick-necked / thrashy / thug-core to mellow my "amped-the-fuck-up" self back down to a tolerable level.

Sometimes I add beer to the equation as well, but enough about me & my world, right?

Darkside NYC has been pummeling earlobes, craniums, & 40-ouncers for nearly 20 years on & off.
You can't pin them down to just the hardcore set either - right when you think all they got in their tank is killer heavy "chugga-chugga" breakdowns, they'll switch it up & get all "Tom G. Warrior-styled" thrashy on you!

Just go with it bro, the shit's all good...

VIOLATION.

Chunka-chunka-chunka,
Growl-growl-growl...

I mean that in a GOOD way.

Excellent contemporary more-newschool-hardcore-than-metal, and defintiely NOT part of the "Thrash Revival".
These So-Cal thugs are more akin to falling sound-wise somewhere between World Burns to Death/Buried Alive/Slayer. Rad cover art, too.

ANGER.

A long-lost-in-my-garage recent unearthing, The Magic City's Anger was a fertile amalgamation of the upstate NY sXe thug-core sound with the brutality of classic Floridian Death Metal - the final element coming from the hands & feet of Mr.Alex Marquez, formerly of Malevolent Creation & Demolition Hammer (among others).

I'm pretty sure not alot of people have listened to this; check it out as it may surprise you - a lost classic from my collection for sure...

Anger - Miami, FL

(It is suspect at best to think that the band photo above is actually of THIS Anger, but if you think about it, HOW SICK DOES THAT LINEUP LOOK, HUH)?
