FUCK YES!

The guitars / bass / drums played on this recording were complete enemies - there is no "in unison attack here".
Said / alleged instruments attacked the fuck out of each other at all times, unreleting in their pursuit of domination!

Vocals that barely range out of the "I just got punched hard & repeatedly in the throat" area, but when it does venture up from the decrepit cesspool, they go for the outer orbits & hit that "angel screaming/dying in slow-and-painful agony" zone.

At times, this record almost sounds as though it is playing at the wrong speed - but man - it is SO fucking RIGHT…

CHILDREN OF GAIA.

The "City of Drizzle" (Sao Paulo) in Brazil is known for many things - great food & beautiful people being among those - but a vegan hardline metallic sXe band as well? Indeed.

Children of Gaia held it down for the better part of a decade with their dark & brooding take on the militant metalcore sound. Lots of heavy chugga-chugga, shit-tons of bottomless-pit breakdows, and a fury of deep-throated vocal anguish.
Their version of "thug core" is unique in that the leads (if you can call them that) aren't full of pick squeals and such - they keep it dark at all times. Good stuff if you have a soft spot for the old-school metallic beat-down HC…

You ever wonder what the sound of being sucked into a black hole through time and space would sound like?
I think it would be safe to assume that it sounds like THIS.

Infested Blood create some of the most caustic and agitating brutal death metal around - easily one of the most unique/underrated bands in the DM scene. If you enjoy the sound of a man vomiting broken glass & metal shards, ill car-crash guitar riff-runs, & relentless drumming that is - dare I say - "relentless", well then… here's your ticket to an endless vortex of eardrum battery...

SEPULTURA.

While the Cavalera Brothers have moved on to newer/groovier pastures - as has the current lineup of this band - there was a time long ago when four like-minded hombres came together & created one of the greatest "pure thrash" metal records ever conceived.

Aggressive on all levels, the drumming is relentless and spends most of its time in a drag race with the razor-sharp riiffing. The vocals are no-frills/full-throated crossover-style, and when this thing came up on my iPod today at work during shuffle mode, I had one of those moments of, "Holy Shit - I forgot all about this record!" and had to turn it up loud (at 8:15am) and remember how great these guys were - even if it was only for (maybe) one record more (Arise).

Some excellent Brazilian Hardcore (they always do HC well, don't they?) that pretty much runs the gamut of all things old-school whether we're talking hardcore, thrash, crust, etc.
These guys know how to mix it up well without sounding like are emulating anyone.

I wish I could tell you more about their history as I don't know much about them - (especially like, "what's up with that name?") - but I will tell you that they have been kicking the ass of my ears for the past week or so at 7am whilst driving in the Battle Toaster on my way in to work each morning...

Excellent riffs, nice guitar tone, rabid drumming, and those high-and-low back-and-forth crust-inspired vocals? You'll find them all here, check it out!

OLHO SECO.

Today I compel you all to indulge in the primitive roots of one of Brazil's earliest purveyors of fine hardcore, Olho Seco.

While these are early recordings that sound raw and lean on the sonic side of things, the energy and passion carry the goods.
Shades of the power yet to come; any doubts?

Olho Seco - Os Primeiros Dias (1981 - 1983)

In the late 90's there was an all-female band from Sao Paulo, Brazil that played some solid hardcore you may not have heard. Well, now is your chance to check them out.
This was just released on 625thrash records, so definitely BUY IT. I picked my copy up for less than $13 shipped from RevHQ.
Here's the whole discography from these blazingly hot Brazilian hardcore-thrash queens.
I was really glad this collection has seen the light of day as they have been a favorite band of mine for years now.

SUBTERA.

Underrated Brazilian grind/core that adds "a little something extra" to the genre with some slow/heavy riffage thrown in. Hard to describe, as it fits within the afforementioned genre (but then again it doesn't?).
Fuck... I don't know - all I know is that I like it!
