HYDROPHOBIA.

We all know that the Japanese People are inherently cooler than the rest of us, & while these fellas from the oldest city in Japan may not have invented anything new in the grind/gore/death/grind department(s), they cull all the riffs, grind, pummel, blast, & shred from bands we all know & love (like Carcass / Brutal Truth / Cannibal Corpse, etc).

That's a formula that you can't go wrong with.

(To be completely honest, I found out about these guys by connecting w/ the bass player of this band on Instagram. He "liked" some of my photos, so I checked his out & his stream was interspersed w/ grind-metal madness & fluffy little puppies, etc. I'm all like, "WTF?", etc. I look a little closer at his profile & it says, "I play bass guitar in Hydrophobia.")
BAM!!!

There is still hope for the internet sometimes.

CARCASS.

Let's start the year off by ripping & tearing into a greasy fat chunk of meat from the Carcass of some of Liverpool's finest gore-death mongers ever known to filet the riffs, shall we?

Not much needs to be said - a visceral power-trio if there ever was - Bill, Jeff, & Ken lay down the heavy - w/ the grind - w/ the atmosphere to create something unique in the gore/death/grind genre.
We all have our favorite era of Carcass, and I pretty much like all of them - really. This one is cleansing my palate quite nicely right now.

Rediscover this if you haven't already.

Kind Reader:

Sorry the year didn't go out with a bang around here. I was totally sick w/ the flu all through the Xmess holiday, then I barely recovered a day before I had to fly (last-minute) back to MI for my Grandmother's funeral service.

That was the relaxing part of the last two weeks for me in many ways; the flights I took were all delayed/almost missed/or rebooked. I spent New Years Eve by myself in a hotel in Cleveland for fucks' sake - then I got flown to Newark, NJ the next day so that they could put me on plane EIGHT HOURS LATER bound for SF.

FUCK CONTINENTAL / DELTA AIRLINES!!!

Let's all hope that 2011 holds something better than what 2010 shit out.

IMPETIGO.

If you enjoy grind-gore infused w/ a heaping spade-full of old school death metal, then Bloomington, Ilinois' Impetigo is what you're looking for.

Great snuff samples interweaving throughout; some excellent throat-gurgling groans /blood-curdling screams that sound completely inhuman in a way that hasn't been done before. The guitars are groovy-but-heavy in the riff department, not always blasting away at top speed, but plenty of down-tuned chug to set the stark atmosphere, and although this release is more death-than-grind, it completely shreds - not a bad song the album, if you ask me.

A unique record - a classic, actually - in the gore-grind/death genre.

CANNIBAL CORPSE.

So here we have the first "Corpsegrinder"-fronted C.C. album, and for me, this is always a fun listen. I'm sure there's tons of "fans" out there who dig Barnes over Fisher, but I think George stepped it right up - the dude possesses a fine-tuned serrated throat-hole, for sure.

This is a heavy album full of catchy riffs, bottom-end brutality, and overall it is in-your-face with some nice thrashy bits with creepy little lead nuances form time to time. The rhythm section? Well, what can you say? They are the mainstay of the band, and for good reason - they always come correct.

Everybody has a favorite record / era of the band, and for me - this week anyways - Vile is my favorite by these "Noo Yawk" masters of death-pummel.

Bonus story for you...

I once witnessed George Fisher puncture the tin lid of a Skoal can w/ two fingers on the first try after a 2001 gig here in S.F.
WTF, you say? I KNOW! Rad…

REGURGITATE.

Wonderfully-sickening gore-grind from some a Swedish crew that are some of the most important players in the game, this here hard-to-find-but-crucial-as-fuck (CD-R only) release gathers up their recorded output from a multitude of split releases they belched forth from 1991-2002 - I think - for a total of 78 brain-rattling tracks.

Gurgly gut-churning vocals, grindy-blurr riffs w/ a smidge of melody here & there, backed with a franticly blasting backline makes this collection a keeper...

GUTTURAL SECRETE.

This one goes out to all five of you who LOVED my last post!

These sick bastards from Las Vegas create a maniacal fury of blasting/grinding/intense death-grind with more than a few fucked/weird samples mixed in the fray.
The vocals are not-human-in-nature - oinky squeals all the way to deep-gut growls? You get it all.
Guitarwork? Masterful shredding indeed.
Drums? Lotsa doubled-up bass pedal action, lots of spastic blasting - so fucking tight!
Maybe the only weak spot is the bass, and there's nothing really to complain about there, just a bit more "in-the-pocket" than I'd expect for these fucked-up shit/death freaks.

This is a LOUD record that will definitely piss of everyone you know...

MESRINE.

Serial-Killer "inspired" deathish grindcore from Quebec.

Although the description sounds lame, these guys are not - forget about what you may think about "gore-grind, etc. as these guys know how to make it heavy as well as being able to grind that puny excuse you call your "manhood" right the fuck off...

BRAIN DRILL.

I'm sure I have used the word "shred" to describe at least a few of my posts, but let me tell you this - nothing I have posted before shreds like this...

Mind-melting ultra-mega technical death/grind calisthenics going on here, without sounding like they are just trying to be the fastest band alive. They are also looking for a new drummer at this point so if you think you got skills thick enough, holler...

D/L Brain Drill - Apocalyptic Feasting right here.

(I just installed a fuckload of new brushes in my Photoshop application, so be prepared for overkill from here on out).
