LICKGOLDENSKY.

Chaotic hardcore fuckery.
A ton of melody floating in a cesspool of electronic catharsis.
Fat hooks, jarring rhythms, abrasive vocal caterwaul.
The heaviness of the load - the load being something like a giant piece of shit-flavored cake drizzled with a Robitussin-and-Adderall frosting / glaze-type of icky goodness.

Just put it in your ear / mouth already, willya?

YDI.

While DC had Void,
Detroit had Negative Approach.

NYC had (by this time) Bad Brains,
and Raleigh, NC had Corrosion of Conformity.

(Insert your fave town here) had (insert fave burly hardcore band here),
and
PHILLY HAD YDI...

Definitely one of the most unsung, underrated, and under-appreciated - especially on a national scope - bands of the first era of American Hardcore.

For your listening pleasure today I offer you this most-amazing collection culling material spanning the years 1982-1988.

ENJOY.

TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION.

If you love grindcore then you probably are familiar with the juggernaut known as Brutal Truth. Rich the drummer does his own thing now & then, and that thing is known as Total Fucking Destruction.
While possibly not as non-stop brutal as said band, these guys can hold their own in the blast zone for sure.
Here's a choice collection of early demo tracks & live takes...

Total Fucking Destruction - Compact Disc Version 1.0 Pt. II

In other news, I just wanted to take a moment to say how stoked I am that L-R V has just celebrated it's one-year anniversary a few days ago.
I've met a bunch of great people in the past year, and learned alot about some great bands from some fellow bloggers and blog lurkers. The great stories some of you have shared have been inspiring, and hopefully some of you have enjoyed this small stop on the web as much as I have enjoyed tweaking the band photos and artwork and sharing the music I love so much.
270 posts down and I'm still not burned out - that's pretty amazing for a guy who has killed off no less than 5 or 6 music blogs in the last 5 years!

Thanks for all the great comments so far - this place definitely feeds off it!

Now playing: Ulcerrhoea - Righteous Assholes

FLAG OF DEMOCRACY.

A mainstay of the Philly hardcore "scene", they've been consistently churning out a barrage of thrashy 'core since 1982.
Here's my favorite long-player - from way back in 1986 - and it still blows doors off.

Fuckin' A, man.

STINKING LIZAVETA.

Crazy ass three-piece instrumental doom/jazz/metal from Phladelphia PA.
With a mojo (not so much in sound, but in "feel") akin to the infamous Dead Moon, they transcend being "just another rock band" - that's special indeed...

D/L Stinking Lizaveta - Hopelessness & Shame right here.

STARKWEATHER.

A cornerstone in the Philadelphia (heavy) music scene throughout the years, Starkweather have niched out their spot in the world of technical metal/hardcore with inventive hooks & unique vocal delivery.

They have influenced a generation of bands that may be "more famous" than they are are, but certainly pale in comparison to "the real thing"....
