LICKGOLDENSKY.

Chaotic hardcore fuckery.
A ton of melody floating in a cesspool of electronic catharsis.
Fat hooks, jarring rhythms, abrasive vocal caterwaul.
The heaviness of the load - the load being something like a giant piece of shit-flavored cake drizzled with a Robitussin-and-Adderall frosting / glaze-type of icky goodness.

Just put it in your ear / mouth already, willya?

FESTERING RINYANYONS.

Wickedly spastic trashy noisy noisecore unit from Dekalb, IL that never got any love, obviously.

These guys "out-noised" most of the bands on the AmRep roster back in the day, and I can appreciate that.

PERTH EXPRESS.

Somewhere between Converge, Tragedy, and Mastodon (before they got shitty) lies Perth Express.
If you like any of the aforementioned bands, you might like these guys even more.
I'd say this is the record Baroness should have made instead of that lacking-a-pair "The Red Album" piece of mediocre crap.

Rumor has it these guys just broke up - which sucks - but that's the stuff legend is made of, isn't it?

Good noisy/heavy hardcore without any of the macho-pose / art-fag trappings.

Real good.

HIRUDINEA / WATCHMAKER.

Hirudinea fucking slay, bro.

I woke up this morning and knew exactly what I was gonna post.

I scored this a while ago, and I've been so busy with the madness at work as well as a full-plate at home that it just sat on that corner of my desk that is always a three-foot-tall stack of unlistened-to CD's.
I finally had the time to actually start going through some of the logjam in the last week - thus the lack of updates.

My first test for a new CD to see if it is "worthy" is by playing it on my drive to work.
That usually tells me within 15 minutes if a CD kills or not.
This split CD definitely is a strong cup of coffee - made with turpentine, per se'.

Very violent, and at full speed, both of these Boston bands make some seriously scary fucking music that is not without being heavy as well.
Hirudinea is a new one for me, and I sure as fuck hope to hear more from these guys.
Watchmaker is a personal favorite of mine, and as usual, they do not disappoint!

I'd love to see both of these bands on a full-on Boston bill, the line-up (in no particular order) being:
Hirudinea / Watchmaker / Raw Radar War / Converge / Out Cold - fuck, I'll stop right there...

HAMMERHEAD.

Probably my favorite AmRep band, these guys put out a few good records that I can still listen any day of the week.
While I am also a big fan of the first album, it was this one that I played day after day after day for a long time; more so than the rest.
After (highly underrated) guitarist Paul Sanders left the band, I gave up on these guys.
Vaz never did shit for me either.
This record is heavy and melodic and brooding and rockin'.

Where the fuck are you, Paul Sanders?

CURSED.

Can't tell you how much this band has reaffirmed to me that hardcore is actually not dead (or in the mall) but alive and well in Toronto, Ontario. There's some good (contmeporary) hardcore bands out there, and then there's CURSED...

( I tossed in a bonus track that I downloaded off the Cursed website years ago)...

LUDDITE CLONE.

Can't really call these guys metalcore or noisecore or grindcore, but they did represent a wonderful amalgamation of each said genre, and they did it better than most. And much like this record, it seems like it/they ended before it/they even began.

Fucking awesome.

FIGURE OF MERIT.

Minneapolis-styled heavy noise/core.
Good, tight riffing, a bit of the chunka-chunka, and damn if I ain't hearing a touch of the legendary Coalesce in there as well?
I feel like these guys still haven't completely tapped into their full power yet, hope to hear more from them...

Some solid metal/noise-core from the UK, too bad these guys didn't stick around longer as they were just hitting their stride...
