BRAINOIL.

You ever been to Oakland, CA???

The East Bay ain't no joke, and Brainoil is the soundtrack to your apprehension....

The region has always bred (punk/HC/metal) bands that stand out above the rest, and while I tend to shy away from posting much sludge around here due to legions of overly-mediocre bands that have saturated the genre -(look around, bro)- Brainoil has always hulked above the rest.

No question about it.

NEUROSIS.

There's not much that need to be said about these guys.
They pretty much have their own "cult" per se, and while I do enjoy seeing them live (these days), it's the old stuff that I really go back to again & again.

Neurosis took the apocalypse-core sound way-the-fuck beyond (and back again), but here's the blood-and-grit-covered early sound of what was to come...

UPDATE 04.28.2009: LINK REMOVED BY REQUEST OF THE BAND - WISH GRANTED.

HELL'S KITCHEN.

Another hard-to-find Boner Records recording, this time it's Hell's Kitchen featuring former members of Fang and The Boneless Ones.
That should be enough information for you to figure out what this sounds like, right?

PART TIME CHRISTIANS.

More obscure East Bay Hardcore from the 80's for you.
I gotta thank Avery for sending this one in (he sent in the CIrcle Jerks a while back).
Good thrashy hardcore - complete with four songs about bowling, bitch!

THE BONELESS ONES.

Here's some hard-to-find first generation Bay Area skaterock for you.

I haven't seen the singer Max in quite a while, but he was always known for his severe case of, ahem, "chronic bong-chitis"...

Ha ha.

FANG.

Hard-to-find record from these East Bay Heathen Scum hardcore heavyweights.
Not quite as raw (hardcore) as their previous releases, but still this is a pretty decent album.
The drug (ab)use as well as the collective unstable psyche of band personnel at the time is laid bare for all to see, essentially...

D/L Fang - Spun Helga right here.

Now playing: Rattus - Raiskaus
