DEVO.

Man, Devo used to rule my world back in junior high/high school!

The soundtrack to my daily life back then used to be these guys, Kiss, Cheap Trick, AC/DC & The Clash. I'd spend most of my days out on my BMX bike or my skateboard, playing Cenitpede or Defender or Joust at the 7-11 near my house, sneaking Kools from my Dad's pack.
Nice, huh?

Here's a sick collection of rare tracks/mixes from the Spud Boys themselves.
I believe this was only released in an edition 5000 pressed, and fuckin'-a if it don't rule...

  1. NICE POST J, if there was such a thing, wouldn't you call them hardcore new wave? I had a chance to see them in about '81 and still kick myself for missing that opportunity. A big septic thank you for this.

  2. DEVO and BMX, awesome. Remember the killer magazine Action Now?

  3. Action Now morphed into Thrasher Magazine, yeah, I still have my copies.

Skateboarding & BMX used to be so cool back then.
Now skateboarding is so mainstream, and for someone who works in that industry, I think it's both good & bad.

Remember when you used to know no one else when you skated/
And as for BMX, well, their whole style of clothing, colorways of baikes & all their tricks & terrain seem to emulate today's skating. Kind of sucks, that racing isn't bigger because that end of it was/is still cool.

  4. My mom owned the first skate shop in south Florida in the '80s but it was gone by '84. I grew up seeing Alan Gelfand and Monty Nolder, both from my hometown.

  5. Your mom must be pretty cool - she did a raise a hellion that's for sure!
We're both on that tip now...

Monty Nolder was always a favorite of mine, rode a couple of his Schmitt Stix decks, and I always had visions of owning my own Cambodia Ramp in the woods somewhere myself.

  8. Very cool. Monty was actually from Miami and started skating at the runway skatepark down here. He and Robbie Weir, and myself used to travel all over Florida competing. I also introduced him to the owner of Schmitt Stix.
