CRUCIFIX.

Real street punk from the heydays of the S.F. scene - back when you made your own shirts and stuff.

Flying V's still kick ass...

Crucifix - Exhibit A.

5.30.2008

FLOOR.

By request for 'ol Fred the Mindgrinder, here's some catchy 90's Floridian-in-origin sludgeness for you all...

(Much better than Torche).

Floor - Floor

RE-UP: STINKING LIZAVETA.

Because so many people have been asking me re-up this (for the third time in a year, damn) my good friend Maarten in Amsterdam came through with the goods
and you can now all enjoy "Stinking Lizaveta - Hopelessness and Shame" once again.

(Hopefully this time the link will last).

In other news, I just got back from Detroit yesterday, visited my family for a week, BBQ'd the fuck out of a bunch of various kinds of flesh, did some golfing (weird I know), read a couple books, napped alot and saw lots of fat white people of course.
All in all a good time, but it's nice to be back in S.F. again.

Be back with some new shit later today.

5.27.2008

MÖRSER.

Some tasty grindcore you today, here's the first album from Germany's Mörser who just so happen to have not one but FOUR different vocalists at any given time! Some hot metallic / deathy leads thrown in and as an American the lyrics sound even more brutal in German.

Mörser - Two Hours To Doom

SKEW WHIFF.

Absoloutely stellar raw and dirty metallic crustcore from these Belgians (and one U.S. ex-pat). Crunchy / chunky power chords, galloping thunderous drumming, abrasive over-the-top screaming - it's all here!

Wish these guys still existed...

Skew Whiff - Taedium Vitae

UGLY BUT PROUD.

Once upon a time there was this wicked thrash band from Detroit.
They fucking slayed the place, put out a record on the legendary Michigan label Depression Records (of which I will post more from at a later date), moved to San Francisco, killed it there, and then I think they just kind of imploded, and went back to Detroit.

They put out another version of these recordings with a somewhat different line-up, but it doesn't come close to the power they harnessed on these sessions.

For all I know the recording I have posted may have never seen an actual "official" release - they were slated to come out on Depression records as well, but the band went down in flames before that could happen.

Enjoy a great lost piece of Detroit Thrash history that still stands tall today...

Ugly But Proud - Bein' Ugly Is Alright

5.24.2008

CHEETAH CHROME MOTHERFUCKERS.

Are these guys one of the greatest hardcore bands that ever stalked the planet?
I'd like to think so.
I read somewhere that someone once called them, "The Italian Black Flag".
They weren't lying...

CCM - Into The Void

5.23.2008

THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE.

Absolutely punishing hardcore that at times crosses over into the realms of grindcore / powerviolence. Amazing musicianship here, proving "hardcore ain't dead".
(Oh, and did I mention their is a former member of SHANK involved here?)
Fuck yes.

The Endless Blockade - Turn Illness Into A Weapon

Now playing: Acid Bath - Diäb Soulé

5.22.2008

VULGAR PIGEONS.

Bitchin' grindcore from the Bay Area that is sadly now defunct.
They should have been bigger than they are, but I have a sneaking suspicion these guys really didn't give a fuck about self-promotion, etc.
I'm sure if they were on Relapse they would be where Pig Destroyer is these days.

Here's their first EP and some extra stuff they added for this CD release from the sorely-missed Howling Bull America label.

(Some members are now in a X-tian grindcore band called "Tortured Conscience".
Never heard them, or heard of them for that matter. I am interested in hearing it though I myself am not a believer in goD).

Vulgar Pigeons - Genetic Predisposition

5.21.2008

COFFINS.

Been seein' this one around a bit lately, but I'm posting it as well cuz it's so damn good!
Gurgled-out sludgy doom from Tokyo that lies somewhere between Venom, Corrupted, 16, Motörhead & Discharge?
Yep...

Coffins - Buried Death

Now playing: Code Of Honor - Death To You

5.20.2008

"GOD'S FAVORITE DOG".

Way-the-fuck-out-of-print comp. from Touch & Go Records featuring cuts from Butthole Surfers, Killdozer, Scratch Acid, Big Black, Happy Flowers and Rick Rubin's band, Hose.
The Happy Flowers jams on here are perfect for clearing the fools out of your house when you want to end the party!

Remember when Touch & Go wasn't "just another indie label" filled with pussy bands?
Reminisce, fuckers.

UPDATE 08.28.08 -

*** LINK REMOVED AT THE REQUEST OF TOUCH & GO RECORDS ***

5.19.2008

RUDIMENTARY PENI.

Here's one I haven't seen around much.
A boot from containing three live sets from 1982.
They all sound pretty good - you know you want this...

Can't wait to get my hands on the new one supposedly coming out June 5th!!!

Rudimentary Peni - Catastrophe

Now playing: Facebreaker - Devoured By Decay

5.18.2008

IRON LUNG.

Alright, everybody's been asking for it, and it took a bit of sleuthing around the webernet to find it, but I did and here it is.
The latest output from this two-man terror unit that keeps pushing the boundaries of powerviolence to new extremes without being "ironic" like so many of the "scene-grind" powerviolence bands are. Fuck the hipster art-fag bullshit!

These guys are THE REAL DEAL, they've been around for awhile, and they must be doing it right if Nick Blinko does cover art for them, comprende?

Iron Lung - Sexless / No Sex

----------------
Now playing: Black Kronstadt - Paranoid Delusions

HELIOS CREED.

It was hard for me to pick which one of Helios' insanely trippy albums to posts first here at the L-R V, but seeing as how I just got this recently (and for $4.98, no less!) I figure I'd share the bounty with you all.
You pretty much know what you're getting when it comes to Mr. Creed's work, and for me, he can do no wrong. I enjoy each of the 8 solo albums of his that I own pretty much equally. This one - like many of the rest - is full of brooding starkness, trippy riffing, effect-heavy vocal tracks, etc.
Even a straightedge dude like myself can get down with this.

(People should pretty much hang up the term "space rock" - unless you are referring to Helios)...

Helios Creed - Chromagnum Man

5.17.2008

ZYGOTE.

While I wasn't a huge Amebix fan (suprised to hear that, aren't you?), Zygote came next for most of the members of afforementioned band and they fucking kick my ass.
Wish they would have lasted longer than they did.
Amazing fucking album!

Zygote - A Wind of Knives

Now playing: .Nema - Sometimes

5.15.2008

ENGLISH DOGS.

"Where Legend Began" is a record I bought for $3.98 new at some really bad mall record chain store when I was like in 8th. or 9th. grade living in a small town in Mid-Michigan. I'm pretty sure I bought a Devo record and a Ted Nugent that day as well.

This was probably the only "punk rock" record in the store; most likely wasn't supposed to be shipped to that store or something, but I bought it and it was totally NOT what I expected it to sound like. I was thinking something along the lines of G.B.H. or Anti-Nowhere League as to what it might sound like.
All my friends hated it, but I still love it.

Enjoy...

----------------
Now playing: Medication Time - Robocop 3000

HAMMERHEAD.

Here's "Ethereal Killer", the greatly underrated first album from one of the best bands to ever come out of Fargo, ND.

----------------
Now playing: Happy Flowers - Let's Eat the Baby (Like My Gerbils Did)

5.14.2008

CHERUBS.

One of the dirtiest, harshest, ugliest records I own.

There will never be another band that could come close to the racket these guys made, and like all good things, shit like this can't last forever.
They went out at the top of their game and boy do I miss this band...

(Wow, look I made a new D/L button!)
