STINKWEED CITY.

Redwood City, California is known these days as being the home of tech giants like Oracle & Electronic Arts, as well as being the city that housed Patty Hearst in jail only to be kidnapped by the SLA back in the day.
More importantly though, it is (in)famous for being the breeding ground for the immensely stoned & incredibly riff-laden powerviolence / grindcore heavy weights Plutocracy.
Sinister sounds of pain, fear, and psychosis fill your ears (along with plenty of movie samples) on this must-have collection of one of the greatest PowerViolence bands that ever was.

Rest In Peace, Stinkweed & Big Boy Dan.

You will be / are missed...

CAPITALIST CASUALTIES.

Santa Rosa, CA's own Kings of Powerviolence make their second appearance here on the L-RV, and damn if they aren't overdue…

What can be said about a band that was at the forefront of the genre and kept their benchmark high from the get-go. These guys live the filth they spew - unlike today's "jockviolence" set.
Every now & again they still rear their beautifully fucked-up heads, so never, ever, ever count them out.

No soap is gonna wash this off, you'll just have to live with it, kid...

STRONG INTENTION.

29 strong & still in your face, The Pride of Frederick, Maryland lays waste with its brick-to-the-face manner of unrelenting thrash/grind/violence.

Definitely a band that should have garnered more attention all along - the material on this mysterious CD-R "release" I downloaded many moons ago from the always awesome RAW GRIND CHAOS CORE blog always satisfies, and over the years they have honed their sound into something MUCH more than just well-crafted "tuff-guy" NYHC.

A swell cup of coffee in the A.M. if there ever was one...

ALTAMIRA.

Sometimes I don't want to share the goods, bro.
I'm sorry.
Every now and then though, there comes a record that just defies genre by creating the perfect brew of all things good about all things punk / metal, etc.

Serious stoner jams - but not in that "Stoner Rock" cliche' kind-of-way.
The "heaviness of the load" runs DEEP here, son.
If there was ever a record that could GET you high w/o you actually being high, here it is.

Unsung WestBayKoalition / Doomryderz ATTACK!!!

RUNNING FOR COVER.

Such a good band.
The sound of urgency.
Arguably Buffalo, NY's best HC band ever.

Here's a fantastic-sounding set of furious powerviolence done the way that only these dudes could do it.
There's even an interview at the end.

Fuck the clones - so many new-school PV bands could learn a thing or two about how it's done from the way these guys did it...

PINK FLAMINGOS.

So maybe that's not a photo of one of Gremany's oldest & greatest rippin' hardcore/powerviolence bands ever, but John Waters is indeed punk as fuck as well….
Blasting drums, crunching guitars, out-front caterwaul? These guys had it in spades. They had power to spare - they did a split w/ Man Is The Bastard - and had they been from the U.S. then possibly more people over here might recognize that.

Either way, I'm preaching to the choir here, or your about to embark a 34-song discography of yet another unsung HC band.

Enjoy - (all four of you that come by to download and actually comment)...

RASH OF BEATINGS.

Eleven minutes of pain, paranoia, fear, anger, & "all-meat-no-filler" power-riffing, repeatedly pummeling you into submission.

I ain't never been to Fort Smith, Arkansas, but a town with "Hell on the Border" as it's motto, I can now understand how a band as fucking hostile & relentless-sounding (as these guys) came to be. They flew way under the radar, and it's not suprising that they were never on Relapse.

Pure fucking grind - that is hard to find these days. Get some.

EXCRUCIATING TERROR.

The past month has been one filled w/ travel, beer, relaxation, BBQ, beer, good times & beer, so I thought I'd be a pal and punch you right in the dick via this unrelenting slab of violence & aural abuse courtesy of a few gnarly cholo-grinders from the Southland.

These guys came & went way too fast, but the good shit never lasts long, does it? If you're looking for a contemporary band flying this brand of freak-flag, search for BLOODY PHOENIX in the archives of this here blog (if you haven't got that already)...

C.R.

Known for being the birthplace of the Wu-Tang Clan, as well as for having the honor of also being the place where all the trash/refuse from NYC goes, Staten Island also spawned one of the true greats of the powerviolence genre - Compassionate Revolution.

While they certainly couldn't be pigeonholed within that movement, "emotional, intense" hardcore just doesn't sound right when describing their sound either. They fucking blazed ass, and made stark, gritty, violent "thinking mans" balls-out adrenalin-fueled hardcore for lack of better stereotype/term.

I'd be surprised if you never heard of them, but in the case that you haven't, do yourself a favor & check these guys out.

GERIATRIC UNIT.

When your band is comprised of former members of Heresy & Iron Monkey, you know it's gonna be powerful & in-your-face scary. The only thing these guys have in common with their name is that they ain't no spring chickens - on the other hand, these guys spew corrosive thrashy hardcore all over the place.

Fast as fuck. Chaotic as fuck. A throat full of gravel. An ear full of pummel.
That's what these guys bring to the party. What you got?

You better look out…

CAPTAIN CLEANOFF.

Some insanely kick-ass violent grindcore from Australia for you tonite...

Captain Cleanoff - what's up with that name? Anybody? - play grindcore in it's earlier, punkier form, sorta like how "From Enslavement to Obliteration" grinds along. Manic, solid, blurred, forceful, and INTENSE!
No new-school crazy tech-shred here - I love that stuff, by the way - just scuzzy, fat, juicy riff-filled assaults on yer dome.

One of the contemporary frontrunners of the genre right here, folks.

CRIPPLE BASTARDS.

An absolute must-have from these rabid Italian grind masters!

24 tracks of non-stop battering; much like getting pummeled repeatedly in the side of the head with a volcanic-cinder brick, followed up by careeninging down an endless staircase made of broken glass, scraps of rusty metal, then finally coming to "rest" in a puddle of gasoline (and your own filth, of course).

Seriously though, this is some amazing thrashy-grind that stands on its own.

You can't go wrong with the Cripple Bastards...

TASTE OF FEAR.

Grindy Metallic Powerviolence from members of Citizen's Arrest & Assück.
Taste of Fear is one of those cult bands that you can't ignore - or find out much about them on the web...

If you loves you some Infest as well as Venom, I'd say that you have "great taste" - much like myself - as well as those two aforementioned bands as being the jumping-off point for what you are about to fuck your ears up with.
The Don Fury "production" sadly leaves much to be desired at times, but the ferocity of the players involved always seems to stay in-the-red, and that's a good thing, folks.

A true classic, this one KILLS.

Taste of Fear - Discography: 1991-2003

I'll be off to Hawaii for a few days of well-needed family vacation - still fucking sick with a gnarly head cold - but I'm ready for some sun & black sand beaches, etc.
I'll see you all in a couple days - keep those heartfelt comments coming - and I'll see you all back here mid-week - (IF I ACTUALLY LEAVE MY LAPTOP HOME, THAT IS)...

3.01.2009

BLOODY PHOENIX.

Straight-the-fuck-up no-bullshit face-ripping blastcore from this relentless crew of grinders from The City of Angels, this is some serious meat-and-potatoes grind-violence that is destined to become a classic record in the years to come.

I wonder if I could string together any more hyphenated word-phrases?

THREATENER.

Raging Powerfuckin'violence that the bastard stepchild State of Michigan spewed forth from its fetid loins in the earlier part of this decade.

They came out swinging and laid waste to many in a short period of time, and they seem to get more cred now than they did when they were active - what the fuck, people?

People will be talking about this band in ten years - I guarantee it.

It's probably been posted elsewhere on other blogs better than this one, nor do I have much information about them to share with you, but if you never heard Germany's powerviolence/thrashcore heavyweights before, now is the time to grab this discography and prepare to get your earballs kicked off (or something like that)...

INFEST.

I had to pass this one along to you all...

Found this over at the most excellent CoW blog a while back, and I even got down on bended knee pleading for them to re-up the link and they did!
Not sure what the back story is on this collection, but it's a doozy for sure; collecting nearly everything these kings of Powerviolence ever did - all in one nice fast package!

You can grab it from here - I did the proper blog "etiquette" and re-upped it to my own bandwidth PLUS I made damn sure the tags are correct as there are 63 songs on this thing - , or you can grab it from the CoW blog directly.
Either way, don't sleep on this...

If anyone has info on whether this is going to be released as a "legit" item or what the story with it is, please share!

"Alleged Satanic Ritual Abuse".

All I can say is, "These guys have been kicking my ears' ass for the last week!!!"

This CD would fit perfectly next to your Swarrrm, Watchmaker, Brutal Truth, Napalm Death, & Phobia CD's - at least they do in my collection.
This is REAL grind , folks.
