SWAMP METAL.

Absolute classic album here, folks.

This is the sound of pain & suffering - for me it is an elixir that quenches "the ugly of the beast within". This record has BEEN THERE for me on so many occasions, and probably for you too, if you're a regular reader / leecher of the L-R V.

There's been alot of Sludge Bands over the years, and they all take a little bit from this record right here. Whether it be the look, or the sound, these filthy NOLA boys got it right before anyone else - because IT was REAL. Times have changed & so have their lifestyles a bit - that's a good thing. Dive into the abuse...

Eyehategod - Take As Needed For Pain

With a new year upon us, it's time for a new format around here.
This is not how I want it, but something has to be done if this blog is to survive.
Online file hosts are being pressured into locking down links as quick as they go up, so until further notice, the titles of my posts will no longer mention the name of the band. Hopefully this will help a bit.
Also, there will be no mention of where the link is - just check the comments.
If anyone has a better suggestion than this, let me know.

I want to shut this down every day, but not as much as I want to keep it up & running…

ASBESTOS DEATH.

If you're a regular visitor here to the L-RV, then there's no fucking doubt that you're aware of who the fuck Asbestos Death was / is.
On top of that, this here live set sounds pretty fucking nice - especially since it's been 20 fucking years since this show happened.

They were unique at the time - most likely under appreciated - and you can hear the beginning of the "classic" Sleep sound coming into being (maybe just a bit less Sabbath worship). Either way, it's fuckin' beautiful…

RIPPIKOULU.

Glacial-expanse heaviness.
Down-tuned guitars drenched in treble.
Flatulent bass slinging.
Drug-coma sludge-pummel drumming.
Add a rusty tree-chipper of a throat to bring it all together & there you have Rippikoulu.

Sit back and "relax" as they create an excursion through some of the muddiest, coldest, HEAVIEST fucking death-doom your busted ears have ever heard.

Unlike most of the death metal that came out in the Early Nineties, these cold-filtered bastards from Finlandia certainly knew how to make one feel like you were in alone in the scariest place on earth (or hell..?) - (in a good way, of course). Fucking classic, bro.

Rippikoulu - Musta Seremonia

DRUNKS WITH GUNS.

I noticed someone has been searching for these guys via my Lijit search box (down there on the right), and figured it was high time to post St. Louis' sludge creeps.

(I probably shouldn't admit to this, but when I initially bought this CD back in 1990, I spent most of that summer eating what probably amounted to a small phonebook worth of blotter acid - not THAT much, really - and listening to this alot, ha)!

Anyways, this record is highly entertaining - as well as unnerving at times).

Good stuff!

FROM HELL.

More top-shelf musical insanity from these ex-HELLCHILD members.
This stuff runs the gamut from ambient sludge to stony riffage to technical death - all with some of the best vocal stylings around. They existed for only a few years, but disbanded after the death of their bass player.

Excellent stuff, now you can throw away all your shitty post-rock "instrumetal" garbage - here's the real deal as only the Japanese can pull it...

CROM.

Thrashy, sludged-out stoner metal complete with a million "Conan the Barbarian" audio clips interspersed between twisting-of-the-radio-dial and coke snort samples.

A fun record that works best with headphones on as it is full of nuances left and right - this just came out, so don't be a ballbag -buy it!

Crom - Hot Sumerian Nights

Now playing: Gorgoroth - Possessed (by Satan)

CORRUPTED.

When it comes to the Japanese masters of doom/sludge, it's hard to pick a favorite as these guys consistently put out a ton of weighty material - all of it being superior to most of the genre.

Here's an excellent recording from a 2005 live performance you don't see posted much.
I wish I could give you more info about "Live at Fandango 2005", but like many things Corrupted, it is a mystery...

Proper info courtesy of reader Ben A. lurking around the 'webernet and tracking it down at the amazing Condensed Fresh blog added.
Made a new cover w/ the correct date as well. Update your ID3 tags in your iTunes, bitches.

COFFINS.

Been seein' this one around a bit lately, but I'm posting it as well cuz it's so damn good!
Gurgled-out sludgy doom from Tokyo that lies somewhere between Venom, Corrupted, 16, Motörhead & Discharge?
Yep...

Coffins - Buried Death

Now playing: Code Of Honor - Death To You

CHERUBS.

One of the dirtiest, harshest, ugliest records I own.

There will never be another band that could come close to the racket these guys made, and like all good things, shit like this can't last forever.
They went out at the top of their game and boy do I miss this band...

(Wow, look I made a new D/L button!)

DYSTOPIA.

A good live set from Seattle recorded in 2002.

(Updates are still happening - I'm not gonna let the blog die - it just wont be as frequent as it once was.
Bear with me as I rebuild my music collection.

HARD DRIVE FAILURE SUCKS.

SOILENT GREEN.

Out of all the NOLA dirthead/sludge bands, these guys don't get the credit they deserve. They have suffered through some serious setbacks in their history - as much as Eyehategod - if not more.
While many folks may think that all grind/tech/metal/core sounds the same (surely not the fine patrons of this blog!), that cannot be said for Soilent Green - especially on this album. A must-have, in my opinion.

JOHN HOLMES.

An awesome British powerhouse of dirty/heavy/crusty/sludgy hardcore from the late nineties, John Holmes came and went too soon, but word is they are becoming active once again.
File this between your Poison Idea and 16 records...

One last/quick post before I go in search of the Yeti (goin' to Tahoe for the weekend), I leave you with this early demo from some of "the dirtiest players in the game", Eyehategod. You can't go wrong with these guys, I'm tellin' you!
